Melvina Doyle ... She passed away in 1924. When Melvina Doyle was born in 5 Oct 1806 in White, Tennessee, her mother, Celia ^[1] was 27. She had one son and one daughter with Robert Young between 1847 and 1859. She died having lived for more than 100 years. She died on September 5, 1924, in Richview, Illinois, at the age of 117 years and 11 months. The census gives it as about 1813 in one, and about 1812 in another. Newspaper article in early 1924 says she is the oldest person "in the county if not the state" and says she was born 117 years ago, and had been a slave. Her death notice in September 1924 said she was "117 years and 11 months. Mrs. Young was the oldest person living in Illinois and probably the oldest in the world......Although nearly 118 years old she was able to thread a needle without the aid of glasses."

Research Notes

Although the death record below gives her mother's name as "Celia Doyle" that is not indicative of Melvina's maiden name, as it is not known if that is her mother's maiden name or married name. More research is needed.
