James was a son of John Doyle and Catherine Dunn. He owned a farm on Prince Edward Island Lot 48. His will mentions sons James (probably the eldest), William and John, and daughters Elizabeth, Mary and Bridget Ann.
The Islander – Dec 4, 1863 Died. At Fullerton’s Marsh, Lot 48, on Friday, the 27th, ult., Mr. James Doyle, Farmer, aged 67 years.
James Doyle, farmer, Lot 48, had a household of 8 in 1841: 3 born in Ireland and 5 on the Island; three males and three females under 16 and an older couple. James had possibly married in Ireland, and had at least one child born there. By 1861, he had a household of 12. There was one male over 60, and a married couple, but it is possible that this was a married child living with his or her widower father. If his will didn't mention his wife then it is possible that she had predeceased him.
