James Doyle was born on 8 January 1717 at Cooladine, County Wexford, Ireland. He was unusually pious as a child. He moved to Cork where he married twice -- to Elizabeth Allment in 1748, and Mary King in 1758. After 20 years of silence in public meetings, he began to preach and became a well-respected minister. He died on 4 Feb 1779 in Cork, aged 62.
