Thomas, parish priest and agrarian agitator, was born on 21 December 1817 in Tombrick, Co. Wexford, the son of Patrick Doyle, a large tenant farmer (76 acres).
Tombrick townland is in the Electoral Division of Castledockrell, in Civil Parish of Ballycarney, in the Barony of Scarawalsh, in the County of Wexford. [1]

Doyle eventually earned the title ‘Land League priest’. He chaired an important Land League meeting at New Ross on 26 September 1880.

"Death of Canon Doyle - The death is announced at Ramsgrange, County Wexford, of the Very Rev Thomas Canon Doyle, P.P., at the age of 86 years. Canon Doyle was first ordained nearly sixty years ago, and as a young priest had experience in New Ross of the famine and plague of years of 1847-48." [5]
