Biography

I am Distinguished Professor of Physics at Ohio University. More details than you want to know are available at http://www.phy.ohiou.edu/~drabold

I am interested in Great Migration and British genealogy, including medieval to early modern. Particular families of interest in Britain are Hanbury and George of Monmouthshire, Harris of Herefordshire and the great migration links I have been able to track, such as Ames of Boxford, McPhetres (and an infinity of other spellings) of Ulster, Mansell of Scituate etc.

I am finally starting to make a little progress on German ancestral lines too. Thes families in question are Trabold and Astor of Walldorf, Biller and Haberkorn of Tauberbishofsheim and nearby communities.

My best work is on my Ancestry tree:

https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/tree/25763682/family/pedigree?cfpid=1710033410&selnode=1

I also maintain a Limited Roots Magic tree: http://plato.phy.ohio.edu/~drabold/Drabold-Papai/

I am also active in DNA studies and administer about 20 tests mostly, but not only of relatives.

I am glad to see wikitree growing into an ever better resource. It has a long way to go, but its definitely moving in the right direction, and at this point I am willing to try to help.

I have “published” a (free) google book on my paternal grandmother’s ancestry: https://books.google.com/books?id=ADflDwAAQBAJ&newbks=0&hl=en&source=newbks_fb

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships by comparing test results with David or other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. Y-chromosome DNA test-takers in his direct paternal line on WikiTree:
  • David Drabold: Family Tree DNA Y-DNA Test 111 markers, haplogroup R-S18823, FTDNA kit #248240
Mitochondrial DNA test-takers in the direct maternal line:
  • David Drabold: Family Tree DNA mtDNA Test Full Sequence, haplogroup U5b2c1, FTDNA kit #248240
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with David:

David I took care of Browne-217 and unlinked the parents based upon the fact of possible fabrication from Richardson, vol. IV, Magna Carta Ancestry, pg. 29: The creator added the name of Browne-217 to the source in the text section details. Because I'm a direct descendant of this profile I could not let it stand so I took it upon myself to unlink and explain why on the profile. If I have done wrong please advise. Otherwise, cheers. Leigh Anne
David,

Re: Elizabeth Barker Freethy When you suggest that "this link should be removed", please elaborate on what link you are referring to?

According to the Wikitree feed, you edited Reuben's biography, but I can't figure out what you added....

Dave, yes, I realize that at this distance, "no match" doesn't mean there is no match...it's just dna being fickle. As for my husband not matching other descendants of Pierre Comeau, we had it analyzed by someone who knew this and still determined that Rich is not a descendant of Pierre. Wikitree controls how our dna listings are shown on the profiles of our ancestors. Last time I checked, Rich was still listed on Anthony's profile, so I have to check with G2G....Also, I understand naming conventions, but perhaps there was a different Anthony Coombs who was the father of Reuben, or Anthony may have been a relative of his wife? In the case of Susan B. Anthony, there are no Brownells in her family tree, but that is her uncle's surname, Thomas, husband of Susannah Anthony.

Hi David, Just want to say thank you for the information on Mary Throckmorton and John West. The website given as to why they may not be.... no longer connects to anything. I have been researching the above connection and have found that many people are connecting the two. Do you have any suggestions on where I could look for verification? I am hoping that this stalemate doesn't out live me. (I am also a relative of Walter Woodworth). Thanks again!
Hi. I note you added an image of her will to Bridget Hanbury. Do you know if the image is free of copyright restrictions?

Greetings David,

Relationship finder says we're 10th cousins sharing the same 9th great grandfather Walter Woodworth. "Hi cousin!" ---Cynthia

In reply to your comment on Tourtellots.

I did so much on that family this morning, it was so messed up, I forgotten any of the details. I suggested/requested a lot of merges to be made, once they are completed, I'll go back and continue with what I was doing. But I thought I had the dates on both Leah's fixed. But I'm not sure right now. Found marriage dates for them too.
