Biography

John Adam Drach (aka Trach) was born in 1733, in Rockhill Township, Bucks county, Pennsylvania, a son of Johann Rudolph Drach, the immigrant and his wife Maria Elizabeth Diefenbach. (Note: his father probably gave each of his sons the Vorname or in English "forname" of Johannes and a unique Rufname or "callname." This Rufname is often underlined on official documents, as it is sometimes the second or third name in the sequence of given names on official record. [1]

Johann Rudolph (his father) died September 1, 1771, in Bedminster, Bucks county, Pennsylvania and is buried in the Tohickon cemetery. There is a photograph of his headstone on Find A Grave, with the inscription, Rudolph Trach 1771 Adam is mentioned several times in the abstract of his father's will which is recorded in "Bio by Jerry Ferren" on his father's memorial. Note that much of the information recorded by Ferren is also included in both Keller and Freese which contain more details of Adam:[2][3]

Adam Trough (thus the name is spelled on the old muster rolls) was an Associator in Captain McHenry's company, Bedminster Township, Bucks county, Millitia.[4][5][6]

Satisfactory proof of his service is contained in the Pennsylvania Archives, Series 5, Volume 5, pages 373-378-384. It is believed that the information contained in this chapter is sufficient to permit any of his descendants to apply for membership in any Revolutionary Society. ...

Following the American Revolutionary War, Adam continued to live in Bucks county. In 1807, he began to sell his land and by 1815, he had moved to Cumberland county, from which place he sold to Jacob Kramer, Sr. ten and one-half acres of the original land purchased by his father from the Penns. This deed shows that his wife, Eve, was still living as her name and mark appears at the end of the paper, which is dated April 5, 1815.

Adam died April, 1815. He was buried in the Old Graveyard at Carlisle, Cumberland county, Pennsylvania.[7]

Adam wrote his Will on December 27, 1813, and it was probated on May 10, 1815. at Carlisle, Pennsylvnia. This Will names seven children among whom is the son, Rudolph, of Hamilton Township, who is also named as one of the executors. His name on his will is recorded as Adam Traugh, of the borough of Carlisle, county of Cumberland and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Keller includes a transcription of the entire will. The children named are: Henry, Rudolph, Peter Phillip, Michael, John, Elizabeth and Hannah.[3]
