Biography

Mattie (Drake) Jones is a part of US Black heritage.

Mattie Drake was born on 27 Dec 1878 in Lebanon, Wilson, Tennessee, United States, the daughter of Willis Drake and Lizzie (Lester) Drake.

In the 1880 census Mattie (age 2) was the single daughter of Wilis Drake in Lafayette, Fairfield Township, Tippecanoe, Indiana, United States.^[1]

Mattie married George A. Jones on 3 October 1899 in Tippecanoe, Indiana, United States.^[2]

In the 1900 census Mattie (age 23) was the widowed daughter of Willis Drake in Lafayette, Fairfield Township, Tippecanoe, Indiana, United States.^[3]

Mattie and George divorced in 1902 or 1903 in Indianapolis, Indiana. They remarried on 30 June 1906 in Hamilton, Indiana, United States.^[4]

Mattie died on 22 Jan 1918 in Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana aged 39.^[5] She is buried in Greenbush Cemetery, Lafayette, Indiana.^[6]
