He married Lucinda "Cindy" HOCK (pronounced Hawk) in 1837. They had 13 children in 24 years. He was elected Sheriff of Madison County, Arkansas, twice before the Civil War and once after Reconstruction. He died in 1889 in Wesley, Arkansas, having lived a long life of 76 years, and was buried there.
