Biography

Keziah was born in 1807. She passed away in 1849.

Sources are lacking to document the life of Keziah Drake. She is widely said to be the daughter of James Drake and Sarah Paddock. I hope this can be confirmed through DNA testing.

Keziah (or Kezia) is buried in the Drake Cemetery in Fairbanks, Sullivan County, Indiana.^[1] Find A Grave: Memorial #21020451 The grave marker states Kezia was born 5 Jan 1807 and died 1 Jan 1842, but this death date is before the birth of her son, Josephus. (See photo on Find a Grave.) This marker is also engraved with the death dates of Keziah's husband, Hugh Weir (d. 1879) and her daughter, Sarah (d. 1896). I think perhaps the marker was engraved long after her death and the date was intended to be 1849 rather than 1842, perhaps a misreading of difficult handwriting?

Josephus Weir was born 14 Sep 1844, according to his death certificate (1924), he was the son of Hugh Weir and Kazire Drake.^[2]

Keziah had certainly passed away before the 1850, as she is not included with the family:

1850 Census^[3] 29 Oct 1850, Prairie Creek Township, Vigo County, Indiana; Hugh 54 NC, Sarah L 18 IN, Andrew 17, James 13, Josphus 4.

1867 Keziah Weir was listed in the probate records of her father, James Drake; "The Heirs of Keziah Weir, wife of Hugh Weir, now deceased."^[4]
