Biography

Ann (Draper) Scratchley was born in Chitterne, Wiltshire, England.

Mary Ann Draper (referred to as Mary or Mary Ann when young but Ann in later life) was born in 1835 in Chitterne, Wiltshire, England, the daughter of Samuel Draper and Jane (nee Grant).

On 24 August 1835 she was baptised at All Saints' Church, Chitterne. ^[1]

In 1841 she was living with her parents and two younger brothers James and George at Towns End, Chitterne-All-Saints. Her parents went on to have 2 more children, both girls. Samuel Draper, Mary's father, died in 1847 and Jane) (Mary Ann's mother) remarried early in 1849.

In 1851, Mary Ann was a Domestic Servant at Gore Farm, Market Lavington, Wiltshire. ^[2]

She married James Scratchley in May 1853 in West Lavington Wiltshire. ^[3] The couple had at least 7 children.

Mary and James lived in Market Lavington until Mary died early in 1900.^{[4] [5] [6]}
