Wilhelm Drendel passed away age 77 on 5 Jul 1870 in Eden Valley, South Australia [1] and was buried in Eden Valley St Petri Lutheran Cemetery. [2]

Carl wilhelm Drendel was born in Brandenburg, Prussia in 1792 and lived in the small village of bobersberg, 7 km west of Kossar. He earned his living as a shoemaker.

Shipping record indicate he was first married in 1814 and it is thought that Johanna Christiane Bertha Drendel was the child of this marriage. There are no detaols of this marriage. Carl Wilhelm married Maria Dorothea Sophia Noack, born 1814 and child of Johann Noack and his wife Maria Elizabeth, nee Droescher. The union was blessed with five children who were all baptised in bobersberg as noted below,

Pauline Wilhelmine August, 17.5.1840 Johann Friederick Wilhelm, 21.8.1842 Carl august Gustav, 26.11.1845 Maria Wilhelmine Emilie, 6.8.1848 August Pauline, 14.12.1851.

The family departed Hamburg on 31st October 1857 aboard the "Alfred" ,arriving in adelaide 13th February 1858, they settled at Eden Valley, SA.
