Hitting brick wall on paternal grandparents. With help from two persons on Family search I learned that in 1893Oct.11.They left Germany for the USA on the ship SS Elbe. I haven't been able to find them.It is probably my begging naivety. This was on my Grandfather's application for citizenship. Also on this application was my Grandmother's maiden name Louise Anna Hefner! My family wasn't close and in my family neither I nor my siblings asked questions about where we were from.In my family it just wasn't done.Thank You all for your time!

Hi Paul;

I noticed you were looking for the naturalization papers for you paternal gparents. Here is a free image from ancestry: https://www.ancestry.com/sharing/6187990?mark=7b22746f6b656e223a226a6e4b685677656a744d684f4165434e58693731474b67444c37594c695239484b58333772392b6d6163453d222c22746f6b656e5f76657273696f6e223a225632227d If you have a subscription to ancestry, here is the full link: https://www.ancestry.com/discoveryui-content/view/1581480:61196 It looks like you have most of the info already, but maybe you can use it.

Also Paul, this looks like a marriage record for Heinrich Friederich Christian Ludwig Dreppenstedt, son of Frederick and Louisa, in Erichshagen, Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony), Deutschland (Germany) marrying Anna Marie Dorothee Dreppenstedt, daughter of Heinrich and Marie Dreppenstedt on the same day as you have recorded but for Fredric and Louisa: ancestry free image (in German) https://www.ancestry.com/sharing/6188260?mark=7b22746f6b656e223a224656333342773534787534346f63426b4b6578493468525761612b336374302f545954364e6e386e486b493d222c22746f6b656e5f76657273696f6e223a225632227d ancestry full record: https://www.ancestry.com/discoveryui-content/view/29331:61521

I think this could mean that Louise Berner may be your ggmother instead of your gmother. Food for thought.

Was there a way you specifically embedded the links just for Paul? I ask because I am trying to confirm a few things for him but the links from above all take me to a pay wall for Ancestry as I haven't renewed my membership in several years but still contribute to their site/app. I don't think he has been able to see (at least parts of) the material which has caused some confusions between what he has found on FamilySearch v. WikiTree etc. I hope there is a way he can see these without the membership and perhaps I am just unable...at least that way he could relay the info to me so I could look for potential mistakes. I've found a few area where profiles were conflated on other sites or placed with the wrong family simply bc of the surname...mostly with regard to the Houston/ Heuston / Huston line.

Thanks for your time if you see this :) Cheers! Becky Elizabeth Id: Simmons-11603

I will get this right after three tries. 22nd cousins three times removed. 🙃
Hi Paul,

Sorry haven't gotten back to you sooner. Been working on a lot of leads. So many emails coming in that yours got lost. I see we are connected through your mother Georgia Caroline (Houston) Dempster; (the Houston Line). the line does go back to 1404, John Padraig Houston. I'm not related to him. My line goes to John Houston 1430 2C 15XR then to John 1420 10C 18XR. At this point, my line diverges to Agnes Campbell, John 1420's spouse. Agnes is my 1C 16XR. My main line is the Stewarts. I am 24% Scottish, which is my largest individual ethnic group. Agnes' parents Duncan 2C 18XR & Margery my 15 GGA. Margery's father, Robert, starts the 1st of my Grand Fathers & a Royal line. I see that you also are connected to Agnes she is your 17 GGM. It's uncertain, there is one person that can't be totally confirmed in the line. It also looks like Sir John Padraig (Patrick) "of that ilk" Houston is your GGF with one, as above, uncertain person. You probably know all or most of this, but if not hope this helps. Hal

By the way- I just realized I initially commented under someone else's post to you; my apologies, but we are distant cousins with 86 shared ancestors as of now- probably a lot more once your trees are connected how you want them!

I can see that you've got a lot of people offering to help so I hope I am not interfering- I just felt we had some things in common and genuinely enjoy working on here! Take Care! Becky Elizabeth Simmons-11603

Hullo

Thank you for the appreciation sent my way for some of the work I did on the profile for Emily May (Houston) Cocking (1888-1967). I have now finished what I was going to with the profile and I have left it orphaned (meaning I removed myself as profile manager) . If Emily May (Houston) Cocking (1888-1967) is your relative please feel free to become the profile manager.

I notice that you don't yet have any wikitree relatives connected to you - if you would like some help getting started, I and others on wikitree would be happy to help.

God Bless Ro.

Hi P.,

We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level.

Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.

Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.

Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.

I am having a difficult time trying to figure out how to upgrade and sign the code of honor.Pip I am doing this on a 10" Lenovo tablet w/keypad on screen.I am 82 and just got restarted on my Genealogy as of October this year.I didn't know of this site, went on Family search as it had good reviews.Pip just before sending you this comment I saw a page asking me to fill out information which I am supposing is about me.Again I can't load the information into this page!I f you or someone could help in any way I would be grateful.Regards my surname at birth was Dreppenstedt,My father changed to Dempster. My moms maiden name was Georgia Caroline Houston.I have received tremendous help on that side of family from folks on Family search but very little on Dreppenstedt side.Thank you for your time!Paul G.Dempster.
P, there should be a button on the top of your profile that you can click to upgrade. You have to upgrade before you sign the Honor Code.

You got the surname right. It's your Last Name at Birth. However, you can also enter Dempster in the "Other Last Names" field that you can see when you click on "Edit" on your profile. That's also the mode you use to add any information about your self.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you need further assistance. I'm here for you!

I saw you Sent a Thank You on my bio update and after reading your comments here I too wanted to offer any assistance with regard to helping you with your family and brick walls...also I have been doing my work on. Samsung Galaxy cell phone so I understand the small screen problems :)

I'm not sure if you have any dna or family members added yet but I'll check and if so maybe we are related. I started my genealogy work because I don't really have any biological family to talk to or learn from and I had a background in pre-med that included genetics..which crossed over nicely- so again; don't hesitate to reach out and I am fairly active on FamilySearch as well. My user name is almost always something like Beliza or BeckyElizabeth and on here my WikiTree ID is Simmons-11603. Cheers! Becky Elizabeth [email address removed]
