Notes

Note N1160Hello Rita.

It's good to hear from you and see you're still busy with your research.

Many Thanks for the details on Ann & Solomon's marriage at Llandigai, which I see from my map of the area is a little village just outside Bangor. It's close to the A5 road, which is the main route from London to Holyhead and about 2 km from Penrhyn Castle where I guess she was a Domestic Servant. The castle is now part of the National Trust.

I'm particularly pleased that Ann's father was listed as 'John, Gardener' which reinforces my belief that she is the daughter of John Drew & Elizabeth (nee Moor) and not Davey, from Halberton.

We've established that Ann said she was born Colebrooke (Penson ) Devon, ca 1835 from 18617181 census.

This is a quick line on what I have on Ann and her father John Drew.

Ann was baptised 04 March 1835 (Private) and 05 April 1835 (Church), Colebrooke and was daughter of:

John Drew, baptised 03 June 1811(Private), 01 July 1811(Church), died 1877, St. Columb Major, Cornwall (GRO Ref: Apr-Mar 1877, St. Columb, 5c 71). He married Elizabeth Moor, 22 April 1834, Clannaborough, Devon who was born abt 1811, Bow, Devon and died 08 June 1861, Colebrooke (GRO Ref: Apr-Jun 1861, Crediton, 5b 261). John was son of: Drew, baptised 1 January 1781, Colebrooke. Not established when he died because there are 5 possibilities. John married 24 July 1808, Colebrooke to Ann Perriman (Perryman). Don't know when Ann died, 3 possibilities. & Ann had a daughter Tryphena (baptised 04 April 1809, Colebrooke) who married 11 October 1830, Colebrooke to Richard Heard. I have contact with connections to the Heards which I'll introduce you to later. John was son of: Drew baptised 20 January 1748, Colebrooke, buried 25 January 1821, Colebrooke and married 30 August 1780, Colebrooke to Mary Roberts, baptised 26 November 1758, Crediton. Mary was buried 10 April 1836, Colebrooke. John & Mary are my 4x Great-Grandparents. My line is from their on William Drew, baptised 01 November 1791, Colebrooke who married 27 December 1812, Colebrooke to Mary Gipson (Gibson). John was son of: Drew, baptised 18 April 1718 Colebrooke, buried 03 September 1782, Colebrooke and married 27 April 1746, Colebrooke to Mary Upcott who was buried 24 September 1771, Colebrooke (nothing more on her). John was son of:

James Drew, baptised 30 October 1688, Colebrooke, buried 23 June 1734, Colebrooke and he married (?) Sarah (?). She was buried 12 September 1749, Colebrooke. James was son of:

John Drew & Alice (?).

The reason I'm VERY confident that this is Ann's line is because in 1861 and 1871 census her father is listed as GARDENER. The one from Halberton is either an Ag Lab or Road lab (1861).

I am in the process of updating my FTM with census details for Ann's father John, who by the way married again (after Elizabeth died in 1861). He is in 1871 census in St. Columb Major, Cornwall (Gardener) with wife Lucy (ca 1808, born Newton Bushell, Devon). Lucy died 1885, St. Columb Major, Cornwall (GRO Ref: Jan-Mar 1885, St. Columb, 5c 80). I've not found out who he married, although I've found a marriage reference which could be him in 1863 (Jul-Sep 1863, Plymouth, 5b 396). It could be Lucy Cox. hope that you are not too overwhelmed by this little bit of information and can see where Ann fits into the picture. When I've finished updating my FTM I'll send you a complete line of Drews from Colebrooke so you can have fun with all the other connections. I will in due course 'forward' a copy of this message to a couple of other cousins, Della Pearson in Vancouver (also from Colebrooke Drews) and Sue Davey in Plymouth (from Heards), so they know there's now another link in our tree.

As for your details on Solomon Hughes and his line I'll get those a bit later if you don't mind because at the moment I'm not doing that much on research. We're about 3 to 4 weeks away from moving house, as I mentioned in my message of 11 April.

We heard yesterday that the problem we were having with the time the Mortgage application was taking (too long) has been solved and it's now only a case of agreeing a date with the vendor as to when we complete the deal. We're busy packing boxes and throwing our rubbish away.

Hope everything is OK in Dunedin with you. Although, it's spring here we've had nothing but rain for a week here in Europe. Roll on Summer!!.

Regards

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
