Biography

Charles Drew was born about 1812 in North Carolina. His mother is Elizabeth (Loyd) Drew (abt.1791-abt.1859).

In 1841, he met and married Elizabeth Reid (abt.1825-1880) in Clay County, Kentucky.[1] He is thirteen years older than her.

In the 1850 census Charles (age 37) was in Clay, Kentucky with his wife and five children. He owns real estate worth $400 and he is a farmer. [2]

By 1860, the family has relocated to Rockcastle County. Charles doesn't own any real estate but lists $380 of his personal estate. There are three more children in the household. The parents ages keep shifting. [3]

After the Civil War ends and life returns somewhat to normal, the Drew family is still living in Rockcastle County. The oldest daughter Elizabeth has married lives next door with her second husband and son. The other children remain in the household, including two new ones. The real estate has increased in value to $700. All of his sons help with the farm. [4]

In 1880, the three sons have married and have families but live on the same farm. His remaining sons live with their parents and work as farmers. His oldest daughter moved to Jackson County with her husband.[5]

By 1902, the ninety-year-old passes. His burial location is not known.[6] His wife died a few years earlier.[7]
