Biography

Elijah was born about 1760. He passed away about 1820.

Elijah and Elisha along with William came down from the Georgetown District of South Carolina, their father might be Matthew Driggers that died sometime before July 13, 1765 in Prince George's Parish which was part of Georgetown Dist. (1768-1800). When Gideon Gibson, his greatest creditor, was granted administration on his estate[SCH&GM 23, 35]. Five years later the same Gideon Gibson as a leader of a group of Regulators would hang Matthew's brother Winslow Driggers along the N.C/S.C. boarder in 1770 as bandit head of a band of fifty other mix race men, and used the provisions of the Negro Act to hang Winslow. The name Matthew is passed down to Elijah's Gt grandson Matthew Driggers 1847-1866, son of Roberson1820-1865, grandson of Elisha 1787-1873.

(by 1810 Elijah & Doney had three son's that would fit being born between 1790 and 1810 so all three males here can be them.)

1839, July 23 Saint George's Parish, Colleton District. Personally appeared before me Daniel Driggars, who upon being duly sworn, maketh oath that Doney Owdom was the wife of Elijah Driggars, And that the said Doney Owdom. the wife of the said Elijah Driggars was a clair [sic] white blooded woman, and was the mother of Jonas, Julius and Elisha Driggars. The deponent also says that he knew her before she married the said Elijah Driggars. which is about forty years. Daniel (his X mark) Driggars. 23 July 1839. John R. Stall, Qu. [MRVVVVV:42]
