Biography

Clarence was born in 1876. He was the son of Elisha Driver and Mary Forsyth. 1880 census lists him as "Elisha C." He traveled to the Alaska Goldrush to join his brother Grant. He passed away in 1952.

CLARENCE DRIVER ANNOUNCES FOR JUSTICE OF PEACE Clarence E. Driver, well known Roseville resident, formally announced Monday his entry in the race for Justice of the peace of Roseville township No. 1, subject to the primary election, August 28. Although living most his life In this section, Mr. Driver has traveled widely, having engaged for many years in the buying and selling of real estate and horses and cattle In many states. Wherever he is known he is respected, and rememberd by young as well as people of his own age. His friends feel that his genial disposition, his understanding of others, his honest, sober and Industrious life, together with hls keen mentality, fit him to hold and properly fill any responsible office. Mr. Driver stated in his formal announcement that he will, if elected, be always on the job as he enjoys the most robust health, and his age is such that, hard work, long hours or any situation that may arise would have little effect upon him. He also states that he would deal fairly, as far as possible to do so, with all matters, and his friends feel that he would give air uplifting tone to this essential and responsible office. 50th Wedding Anniversary

Mr. and Mr. Clarence E. Driver of 205 Cedar street will celebrate their Golden wedding anniversary at an open house for friends and relatives Sunday. The Drivers are natives of the Placer county area, and the children of pioneer families who settled here in the 1840's. Mrs. Driver, the former Anna Blanchard, was born 70 year ago in Penryn. Driver, whois 75, was born and raised in the Antelope area. The couple were married at 724 N Street in Sacramento on Dec. 16 1906. Driver was engaged in farming in the Dry Creek area. They have made their home near Roseville during the entire 50 years of their marriage with the exception of - a short residence in Oregon, and have lived in their present location for three years. The Drivers have four children; Winfield Driver and Wayne Driver of Los Angeles, Mrs Patricia Huffman of Roseville and Stuart Driver of Roseville. In addition they have seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Clarence Driver Rites Conducted Final rites for Clarence Driver retired farmer and miner, were conducted yesterday at the Lambert Funeral Home, Roseville burial was in Roseville District Cemetery. Driver, a native of Antelope, California, died Feb 15 in his home, 205 Cedar Street, at the age of 75 years. He would have celebrated his 76th birthday tomorrow. Driver, one of the oldest and best known residents of the Roseville Antelope area did considerable traveling in his latter years. He and Mrs. Driver celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Dec 16 last year. His father, Elisha S. Driver, settled in Antelope in 1849. The deceased is survived by his widow, Anna B. Driver of Roseville, a daughter, Mrs. Patricia Huffman, Roseville; three sons, Stuart Driver of Roseville, Clarence Driver and Wayne Driver, both of Los Angeles. Also a brother Charles A Driver of Dry Creek, two sisters, Mrs. Helen Lodge and Mrs. Abbie Lewis, both of Sacramento, a grandchild, Robert T Elliot and seven others. I had a number of very large negatives in a box for many years and finally decided to have photographs printed from them. What I discovered was my Grandfather Clarence Elisha Driver (1876-1952) and family on their Goat Ranch in Manton Ca! If you check a map, Manton is pretty much nowhere. Clarence did a number of jobs during his life. He went to the Alaska Goldrush, He had a farm on Dry Creek in Placer County, he dug potatoes as a laborer
