Monique was born 10 September 1835 to Charles Amable Drouillard and Monique Cousineau at Sandwich, Essex, Upper Canada, now Ontario.[1]She was baptized 11 September 1835 at L'Assomption, Essex, Upper Canada. The godparents were Louis Drouillard and Archange Cabana.[2] Monique married Peter Menard, son of Olivier Ménard and Marie Hugron on 14 June 1852 at Ste Anne, Detroit, Michigan. Witnesses were Celestine and Emeline Menard.[1] [3]
Peter Menard and Monica Drouillard had a daughter, Adelore or Adelaide Menard, who was buried 21 September 1857 at St. Anne, Detroit, Michigan.[4] It is not evident whether either parent was living at the time and a baptism record could not be located.
If Monique was living when her daughter was buried, then her estimated death date would be after 1857, but no death record has been located.
Monique's father, Charles, died in 1842, when she was just 7 years old. [5]Her mother remarried widower, Charles Vermet, of the River Sable in Monroe County in 1845 at Ste. Anne, Detroit. [6]According to a note on the Find a Grave memorial of Charles Drouillard, Monique Cousineau died at Monroe, Michigan the next year, (1846) leaving Monique an orphan at age 11. [5] Monique does not appear in the 1850 Michigan Census in either Wayne County (Detroit) or Monroe County (Monroe) The 1851 Essex County Census does not include a Monique or Monica Drouillard. A search for her grandparents or godparents may be fruitful.
It is possible that Monique and Peter Menard moved elsewhere. There are a number of Peter Menards that might fit this couple, but none are clearly the son of Olivier and Marie Hugron.
Some unsourced Ancestry trees show a death date of about 1865 for Monique, with Peter remarrying in 1867, but no records confirm this.
This profile originally had a child, Joseph Menard, b. 1844, attached, who has been removed. Sources pointed to a different set of parents.
Adelaide Menard buried 21 September 1857, daughter of Peter Menard and Monica Drouillard
