John was the son of James Drummond and Rebecca Unknown. He was still living when his father's will was probated on 28 February 1814[1], and is mentioned again in his brother Amos's will in 1822[2]. He was taxed in Nicholas County only once, in 1819, and was residing elsewhere ("late of the state of Kentucky") by the time he sold his land there in 1825[3].
