Sir James was the second son of David Drummond, Lord Drummond[1][2] by his wife Lilias Ruthven.[3]

On 31 Jan 1609, he was created Lord Maderetie with remainder to the heirs-male of his body..[4]

He married Jane Chisholm, daughter of Sir James Chisholm, 3rd of Cromlix.[1][4] [5] They had issue:

  3. Lilias, m. 1st Laurence. 5th Lord Oliphant 29 Oct 1603[7]
