Biography

Birth

Louis DuBois was born in Hurley, Ulster County, New York, [1] probably in about 1677. [2] His parents were Louis Du Bois and Catherine Blanchon. He was named in his father's 1694 will. [3]

Marriage

Louis DuBois married Rachel Hasbroeck in Kingston, Ulster County, on 19 January 1701. The entry in the church register states that Louis was born in Hurley, and Rachel in New Paltz, Ulster County, and that they were both living in New Paltz. It was the first marriage for both of them. They were married by "Capt. Hasebroeck, Justice." [1]

Children

The baptisms of six children of Louis and Rachel appear in the records of the Old Dutch Church in Kingston: [4]

  1. Maria du Boy, bapt. 7 Dec. 1701; sponsors: Isack Haasebroek and Mary Hasebroek.
  2. Nathaneel du Boy, bapt. 6 June 1703; sponsors: Jacob du Boy and Gerritje Cornelissen.
  3. Mary du Bois, bapt. 24 March 1706; sponsors: Isaac Haasbroek and Maria Haasbroek.
  4. Jonas du Bois, bapt. 20 June 1708; sponsors: Abraham Haasbroek and Maria doo Yoo.
  5. Jonathan du Boys, bapt. 31 Dec. 1710; sponsors: Joseph Hasebroek, Elsjen Schoonmaker, Roelof Elting, and Sara du Boys.
  6. Catryna du Bois, bapt. 31 Oct. 1714; sponsors: Zalomon Haasbroek and Catryntjen du Bois.

According to History of New Paltz, New York, and Its Old Families, by Ralph Le Fevre (1909), Louis and Rachel had another son, Louis, born about 1717, but no record of his birth or baptism has been found. [5]

Death

1729, New Paltz, NY [citation needed]
