He also supposedly served in the French and Indian Wars and in the New Jersey Continental Line, and was supposedly twice captured and imprisoned in the New York City.[2]
However, none of this can be supported by records yet found, and the record of a Private Thomas Devall of the Essex County Militia seems to suggest there might be some confusion or embellishment of his service.[3]
Thomas married Ann Ennis,[1] perhaps in 1769. Ann was a daughter of William Ennis of New Barbadoes Neck, who died in 1776, naming his wife as Hanah. James and Ann Ennis were also named in William Ennis' will,[4] and James named his nephew William Duval was an executor of his will in 1797.[5]
Thomas and Ann lived at the Second River settlement in Essex County, which was named Belleville in 1797.
Unfortunately, the William Du Vall family bible from which this information comes specialized in the death dates of his siblings, not so much their other vitals.
Ann (Ennis) Du Vall died in 1809, age 65. Thomas died in Belleville on 5 August 1826.
