George, son of Israel Boardt Dubbs and Elenora Ehrhart,[1] was born 22 June 1897 in North Codorus Township, York County, Pennsylvania.[1][2][3][4] He grew up on the family-owned farm in North Codorus Township, where the household in 1900 encompassed his parents Israel B. (age 36, miller) and Ellenora Dubbs (35, mother of six, all living), George (3), and his siblings Frederick Calvin (15), Emma Virginia (13), Willis Leroy (10), Bertha Ruth (8) and Elenora Esther "Nora" (5).[5]
Israel (age 46, farmer), Elenora (44, mother of nine, all living), George (14), and his siblings Bertha (18), Nora (16), Anna Marie "Annie" (10), Charles Parker (8) and Henry Paul Dubbs (6) remained on the Midway Road farm in North Codorus Township in 1910.[6]
When George registered for the draft in 1918, he was living with and working for his father on their farm in Seven Valleys.[2] At that time he was described as of medium height and build with black eyes and hair.[2]
By 1920 he had moved into the city of York, York County, where George (age 22, chain factory worker) shared the home rented by his sister Elenora (24), her husband Clinton Nace (25. chain factory machinist) and their daughters Anna M. (2) and Mary J. Nace (eight months).[7]
Perhaps it was during his time in the United States Navy, from 4 April 1921 till his honorable discharge 3 April 1925,[3] that he became acquainted with his future wife.
Regardless of how they met, on 23 November 1929 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, George married Mary Adaline Willis,[1] daughter of Thomas W. Willis and Margaret Estella Keitzer.[1] They had one daughter.
The couple settled in the home of his wife's widowed father in Bedford, Cuyahoga County, Ohio.[8] In 1930 the household included Mary's father Thomas W. Willis (age 53, telegraph operator), George E. Dubbs (32, mechanic for a chain company) and his bride May A. Dubbs (20).[8] They were still in Bedford in 1935.[8]
Before 1940 George (age 42, heat treater at chain manufacturer), Mary (31) and their daughter rented a home on Green Road in Warrensville Heights, Cuyahoga County.[9] The record shows that George had completed eight years of formal education, while his wife was a high school graduate.[9]
Later in life George and Mary retired to Pinellas County, Florida, where he died 22 June 1970.[3][4][10] His wife survived him another five years, dying in Florida in 1976.[11]
