Notes

Note N541
1825 Feb 3 - Alonzo May DuBois was born in Washington Co., NY on 3 Feb 1825 (genealogy per Sarah E. Dubois Hubbell). He was the son of Peter Dubois and Peter's second wife Mrs. Mary McBride. Peter and Mary had two children -- their son Alonzo in 1825 and a daughter Mary Jane Dubois born 11 Oct 1827.
1845 - At 20 years of age (c. 1845), Alonzo entered law school at Poultney, VT. I do not know how long he stayed in law school in VT. Within 3 years, he was back in Washington Co., NY, obtaining land from his father and mother. Where did Alonzo get $4,000 at age 23 to buy this land from his parents?
1848 - DEED 4 April 1848. Peter DuBois and Mary, his wife, of Jackson, Washington Co., NY, sold to Alonzo DuBois of (same), for the amount of $4,000. land containing 119 acres.
viz., the west end of lot 16 in the Cambridge Patent adjacent to Lewis McCausland's land 203 Acres EXCEPT 75 acres off from the west end in the possession of Samuel D. Dunham and about 10 acres off the southeast corner in the possession of Wm. A. Wilson and 3 acres in the possession of Julius Collins. The amount of acreage conveyed is computed to contain 119 acres.
1850 - census. Where is he?
1851 July - Alonzo's father Peter Dubois died.
1854 March 4 - Alonzo married Mary Stone. " Later he and his wife studied medicine in Philadelphia." per the Sarah E. Dubois Hubbell family genealogy. If this is correct, they "studied medicine" in Philadelphia between 1854-1856. Both Alonzo and his wife Mary became doctors.
1856 - Alonzo DuBois left NY with his wife Mary and his two nieces -- Frances Luthgen about 9 yrs old and Mary Helen Luthgen about 8 yrs old, his sister's daughters -- to settle in Delton Sauk Co., WI, near where his half-brothers and half-sister had settled in 1850. He had studied medicine in Philadelphia and became a doctor; he met his wife there and she also became a doctor. Dr. Alonzo DuBois practiced medicine in Sauk Co., WI until 1865 when he moved to Cobden, ILL.
c. 1858 - Alonzo's widowed mother Mary Dubois left NY and moved to Sauk Co., WI -- probably to live near her son and his family.
