He was a member of the Ancient Order of United Workmen, Lodge #11 in Kansas. [2]
He attended St. Vincent de Paul's school in New York City , and later worked at floral shops. He moved with his family to Rochester, NY, eventually moving to Kansas in 1882. [3]
