Dominique Ducharme, a fur trader, office holder and justice of the peace, was the second son of Jean-Marie Ducharme and Marie Roy. On June 26, 1810 he married Agathe de Lorimier. As a fur trader, he learned several native dialects. During the War of 1812, he was a lieutenant with the Pointe-Claire Battalion of Militia, then a captain with the British Indian Department. In May 1813, he commanded a group of Six Nations warriors at the Battle of Beaver Dams. On his return to Lower Canada, he took part in the Battle of Châteauguay. [1][2]
