Biography

Benjamin Duckett was born 4 September 1790 in Newberry District, South Carolina. [1] He was the son of Joseph Duckett and Dinah Smith. [2]

Benjamin married first on 16 June 1816 in Newberry District, South Carolina to Sarah Wilson [1] They were the parents of Dinah Ann, Jane, Jacob Brown, Nancy, and John Griffin.

Benjamin married second on 24 December 1826 to Mary Nicholas. [1]They were the parents of Sarah, Martha, Patrick Henry, and George.

Benjamin married for the third time on 4 September 1838 to Rachel (Duckett) Odell.[1] Rachel was the widow of Baruch Odell [3], and the daughter of Benjamin's uncle Thomas Duckett [4] Benjamin and Rachel had no children.

Benjamin married for the last time on 28 November 1854 to Dinah (Odell) Odell [5], the widow of John Odell and the daughter of Eli Odell and Elizabeth Rogers. Benjamin and Dinah had no children together.

Benjamin served in the War of 1812 under both Capt Hogg and Capt Griffin. [6] He filed for and received Bounty land for this service.

Benjamin died 5 November 1861 in Newberry County, South Carolina.[7] [8] He was buried in Lower Duncan's Creek Cemetery, Whitmire, Newberry County, South Carolina. [9]

p. 590. Dec. 30, 1858 Benjamin Duckett vs. John Odell & Elizabeth (sic. Elijah) Odell, "Whereas John Odell, late of District of Laurens and State of South Carolina, died testate and by the provisions of his last will and testament gave to his wife, Rebecca, a life Estate in certain lands situated part in District of Laurens & part in District of Newberry and in said will it was provided that the Executor of his said will should have full powers to sell said lands upon the death of the life tenant (Rebecca Odell) and whereas Thomas Hendricks the qualified Extenant of said will died during the lifetime of the said life tenant, it therefore became necessary after the death of said Rebecca Odell that Administration on the Estate of said JohnOdell should be granted, and upon proper application therefore before William Langston, Ordinary of Laurens District, Administration with will annexed on the Estate of said John Odell was granted Benjamin Duckett...he sold at public auction on Dec. 22, 1858 the land...I, Benjamin Duckett of Newberry District paid $1020, by John Odell and Elijah Odell of Laurens District...bounded by Thomas Watson, Holloway Hill, Barham Gilliam & others...situated portion in Laurens and part in Newberrry..." /s/ Benjamin Duckett. Duckett-294 and Duckett-120 appear to represent the same person because: Marriage of Benjamin Duckett to Rachel Odell, formerly Duckett recorded in bible of Benjamin Duckett Newberry Co., SC. This marriage also appears in Dinah Odell Duckett's widow's pension War of 1812, #30837.
