In the 1880 census of Farmersville, AL, Jeremiah Dudley had his deceased brother John M. Dudley's children living with him: Bettie C. Dudley, b. 1864, niece; Mollie Dudley, b. 1866, niece; and Henry S. Dudley, b. 1870, nephew. Bettie C. Dudley married her cousin Thomas Lewis Glenn in Alabama. Bettie's brother, Henry S. Dudley came to Texas with the Glenn family about 1895. There was a brother, Jacob C. Dudley b. 29 June 1855, AL d. 11 Aug 1895, Texas who married Jane E. Mecklin Dudley b. 22 Aug 1852, MS d. 6 Nov 1926, Texas and is the father of William Denney Dudley b. 26 Aug 1888, Texas, who advised Thomas Lewis Glenn to come to Texas because educating children would be easier in Texas; the schools were public whereas in AL. the schools were private.

Henry S. Dudley (his wife, Kate Conner, was Wyatt Lane's granddaughter and niece of the shooter Clint Lane) was ambushed and killed by a gunshot in Houston County, Texas, 4 May 1907, Henry was on horseback riding home. A man named Wyatt N. Lane had his son, Clint Lane, the shooter, hidden from view. The older Lane stopped Henry to supposedly have a talk and had told his son, "If I take off my hat, kill him." The young man Clint Lane, spent 15 years in prison at Huntsville, Texas. Wyatt N. Lane drank some acid after the trial and died while he was in jail in Crockett, Texas. 2014: From a Lane family document: I read that someone told Wyatt Lane that Henry Dudley had threatened to kill Wyatt Lane and that Wyatt had better kill him first. That document went on to say that Clint Lane got out of prison, came home, beat up the Judge that sentenced him and went back to prison for a few more years. 2016: Added by D. Marshall Satterwhite: My wife, Patsy Cherry Gibbs is distantly related to the Lane family and found a note that documents the dispute between the Lanes and Henry Dudley as being over the location of a fence line.

From the Grapeland Messenger Newspaper, November 1, 1907

Henry Dudley was a well-to-do farmer, living ten miles east of Crockett, and married a granddaughter of Wyatt N. Lane (added by D. Marshall Satterwhite: Kate Conner). There had been trouble of long standing between the Lanes and Henry Dudley, and on the morning of May 4, 1907, while on his way to rebuild a fence destroyed by high water, Dudley was shot by Clint Lane, a son of Wyatt N. Lane, three times with a pump gun, two loads of buckshot taking effect in the side and one load of small shot taking effect to the face. Dudley fell to the ground was expired in a few minutes. Immediately after the killing, Wyatt N. Lane came to town and surrendered to Sheriff Lacey, stating he killed Dudley.

The jury was composed of the better element of the farmers of Houston County and the verdict for Wyatt N. Lane's punishment was guilty of first degree murder, confinement in the State Penitentiary for life. (Wyatt Lane drank some acid after the trial and died while he was in jail in Crockett, Texas. His son, Clint went to prison)
