Alice and her husband John Dobbs were foster parents to Carrie Buck and then to Carrie's daughter Vivian. When Carrie became pregnant by Alice's nephew Clarence Garland, they had Carrie committed to the Virginia State Colony for Epileptics and Feeble-Minded in Lynchburg in fear that they would not be allowed any more foster children because Carrie was an unwed mother. They adopted Vivian after she was born and raised her until she died of an infection in 1932.[1][2][3]
She passed away in 1935.
