  • Fact: Residence (1870) Iowa, United States
  • Fact: Residence (1880) Richland, Decatur, Iowa, United States

This is my wall for the last 12 years. I have even more info on him, but no verified parents or siblings. I don't even know is Gabriel is his first or middle name. The first record of him is in 1829 when he gets married to Delila Blair in Bartholomew county IN where he had 9 children. The 1850 census shows him as being from VA, but it also could be WV because WV didn't exist when the census was taken. He lived there until 1854 when he sold his land and took a wagon train to St. Clair county MO and bought land from Henry Dudley (relation unknown). Sometime between then and 1870 he moved to Decatur County IA. Sometime after 1880 he again moved to Webster county MO where some of his other children lived. There was a picture taken of him, Millie and some of her kids there around 1890. He stayed there until he died in 1895 according to probate records.

I removed John S Dudley Sr (Dudley-6762) as father of Gabriel. I Could not find any information that it was based on anything more than a guess. There are no connections to be found other than their last name and Gabriel came from the same state originally. I would have been interested even if an uncle or cousin had lived in Jackson County, Indiana, where Gabriel moved. The idea that he happened to move to Dudleytown, Indiana, a town full of unrelated Dudleys, seems unlikely.
