Patrick Dufficy was born in 1881 in Lisduff[1]. He was the seventh child and the third son of Martin Dufficy and Bridget Flanagan. His father was a small farmer and they lived in a three roomed thatched cottage with three front windows. There was a cow house, piggery and shed on the farm.
Martin, Patrick's father, died in Sep 1886. Patrick was just five years old. His mother Bridget was pregnant with her ninth child, Margaret Mary, who was born three months later. Patrick's elder brother Thomas ran the farm.
Patrick likely attended Clooncullane National School with his siblings. His sister Molly immigrated to their uncle in Colorado circa 1888, when Patrick was seven. His brother Thomas died in 1899 and the next son Timothy followed Molly to America the next year. This left Patrick as the one to inherit the farm. He built on a fowl house to the farm between 1901 and 1911.
In 1901, Patrick lived with his mother and siblings Bridget, Martin and Margaret[2]. In the next few years, Bridget married and Martin immigrated to live with Molly's family. By 1911, there was just Patrick, his mother and two unmarried siblings, Annie and Margaret[3].
Margaret married Thomas McCormack in 1916. Patrick was friendly with him and always accompanied him to fairs and land auctions.
Bridget Dufficy died in 1923. Anne then became a nun and immigrated to a convent in the USA, leaving Patrick living alone in Lisduff. He died sometime in the 1950s.
