Biography
The son of Marcus Alonzo Duffie Sr and his first wife, Mary Adeline (Force) Duffie, Lake Duffie was born in Edgefield County, South Carolina[citation needed] in 1885. His mother died when he was nine years old and Lake's father remarried, marrying Mary Irene (Thrift) Duffie. In 1900, Lake lived with his family in Saluda County, South Carolina, residing in Township 3.[1]
Lake married 'Sarah Alice (Rhoden) Duffie, the daughter of William Smyley Roton and Nancy Emily Rambo, marrying in South Carolina around 1904[citation needed] and having six known; children together. They made their home together in Saluda County's in Township 3, farming.[2]
Lake registered for the World War I draft when he was 38, registering in Saluda, South Carolina on September 12, 1918.[3] He stated that he lived on Route 5 in Saluda, South Carolina and that he worked as a farmer, farming in Saluda County. Lake was described as a man of medium height and build, with black hair and brown eyes; he did not enlist.
Lake Duffie died from influenza[4] at the age of 33, passing away in Johnston, South Carolina, and is buried at Bethany United Methodist Church cemetery in Saluda, South Carolina.[5]
