Abbie Duffy was born in Wood County, Ohio on July 29, 1857[1] to Joseph and Elizabeth (Frisbie) Duffy. It was Abbie's grandfather, Charles, who traveled from Ireland to the United States. Abbie's father was a farmer[2]as was her husband Eli C Clay, whom she married on January 1, 1878.[3] Eli was also a cooper.[4]
