Jean Baptiste was born on 24 June 1771. He had a lay baptism at birth by Jean Melanson. He was baptized with full ceremony on 14 October 1774 at Baie-Sainte-Marie. [1] He is the son of Joseph Dugas and Marie Josephte Robicheau. His godparents were Pierre Robicho and Marie Gaudet.
He married Anne Comeau, daughter of François Comeau and Félicité LeBlanc, in the presence of witnesses around 1794. The marriage was revalidated on 28 August 1799 at Baie-Ste-Marie, Digby, Colony of Nova Scotia. [2]
