On 19 Sept 1832, Julius Dugger filed for a Revolutionary War Pension. He was living in Carter County, Tennessee at the time. His pension was denied.
According to his sworn testimony, in 1780, he served under Capt. John Keys for a period of about 1 month. In Aug 1781, he served under both Capt. John Keys and Col. John Sevier and fought against the Chickamauga, Cherokee, and Creek Indians. In 1788 he was drafted under Capt. Ford, traveled to Knoxville, and fought in the battle at Lookout Mountain. He claims that in total, he served about 7 months but admits that he has no paperwork to support his claim.
I have uploaded pages 3-4 of his Rev War Pension File that can be found on Fold3.

Julius Dugger is a complicated ancestor to research. This man has been researched by many a Dugger researcher since the 1800s, and thus, most modern day researchers end up citing the research of previous researchers. For example, Mrs. W. M. Vaught is one such researcher who has contributed to all sorts of county and regional histories with her information and her notes have been published. Many researchers cite Mrs. W. M. Vaught's work as fact - which may or may not be true. Mrs. W. M. Vaught often did not cite how she came to her own conclusions, yet many people still take her work as fact. There is no doubt that she did a lot of work on the Dugger family - in fact, her letters requesting copies of Julius Dugger's Revolutionary War Pension can be found with Julius' pension file. But since she did not describe how she came to her conclusions or cite her sources, it is difficult to know whether or not her work is correct. Therefore, I highly suggest that we use Mrs. W. M. Vaught's information as an unproven guide.
Thus, it is my goal to use as many original sources as possible to document the life of Julius Dugger and his children. He has countless descendants and I welcome any help in attempting to document his life and the life of his family.

The following information came from the book, "Tennessee Records: Bible Records and Marriage Bonds, Vol. 2" and can be found in ebook format on Google Books. The information from the book was submitted by Mrs. W. M. Vaught, a Dugger researcher from Elizabethton, Tennessee.
Many people believe that William/Julius Cesar Dugger and Mary Kincaid are the parents of Julius Dugger. Many researchers cite the work of Mrs. W. M. Vaught as being the proof for this claim. However, I have never found evidence, other than Mrs. W. M. Vaught's work, to support this claim. I have never found an original document that would link these parents to Julius Dugger.
In fact, I do not have any evidence that identifies the parents of Julius Dugger. If anyone has any such evidence that is not derived from Mrs. W. M. Vaught's work, I would love to see it.

After years of researching this family, I have found a lot of misinformation out there about the Duggers and it has been my goal to use as many primary source documents and use multiple sources to corroborate the information as much as possible to make my research as accurate as possible.
I'd be happy to merge the two profiles together but we'd need to discuss ways to represent information as presented in the sources rather than present family lore.
