Elizabeth (Eliza) was born in 1833 in Methlick, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. She was the daughter of Robert Duguid and Ann Whitecross.
Eliza appears in the 1841, 1851 and 1861 census in Methlick, Ellon and finally Methlick, Aberdeenshire. Her father Robert was a farmer in Townhead, Methlick and the 1851 census says on 100 acres of land. In the 1841 census in Methlick, Robert is 40 Farmer, Ann 25, Elizabeth 8, Jannet 6, Ann 4, Robert 2, Margaret 0 and also a Jean Whitecross 20 [1]. In 1851 census in Ellon, Robert 52, Ann 36, Eliza 18, Janet 16, Ann 14, Robert 12, Margaret 10, Alexander 6, Thomas 1 [2].
By the 1861 census, her father Robert had passed away. Census in Methlick 1861 shows Ann 46, Robert 22, Eliza 28, Ann 24, Margaret 20, Alexander 16, Thomas 11 and her grandfather Alexander Whitecross 78. Eliza's grandmother Janet passed away in 1856 so it is likely that her grandfather came to assist the family. Note that Janet (known as Jessie) her younger sister had passed away in 1858 aged 23 years [3].
The 1871 census sees two of her siblings pass away: Robert in 1862, Margaret in 1867.
She passed away in 1868 aged 34 years and is buried in the Tarves Parish Churchyard [4].
