Biography

Born 1832 Dunfirmline, Fife, Scotland. Died 1907 25 Eglinton Street, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland. [1] Physical Description: Note: In the mid 1860s, a Glasgow cabinetmaker and spiritualist named David Duguid (1832-1907) began painting small landscapes while being observed, according to psychical investigator Frank Podmore (1902, II:130), "apparently in deep trance, and with his eyes apparently closed"-emphasis on the word apparently. Podmore (1902, II:131) was "disposed to regard Duguid's trance utterances as probably not involving conscious deception," but his later mediumistic demonstrations are another matter. Magician John Mulholland in his Beware Familiar Spirits (1938, 158), says Duguid was among the mediums who employed "simple substitution of painted for unpainted cards.". Description: Note: 1975: David Duguid (1832-1907) This Glasgow medium was most famous for oil painting of landscapes, produced in total darkness and at an amazing speed, supposedly independently of his hands. Not content with painting, his spirit guide was also moved to writing, and through Duguid dictated a remarkable book, Hafed, Prince of Persia. Description: Note: David Duguid (1832-1907). Scottish medium, chiefly famous for his automatic and direct drawings. Duguid was born in Glasgow and became a cabinetmaker by trade. His two brothers, Robert, of Glasgow, and Alexander, of Kirkcaldy, also claimed psychic powers, but David eclipsed them both with phenomena comprising the whole scale of séance-room manifestations. Description: 1841 census records for Kirkcaldy are missing. 06 JUN 1841. Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland. Census: 30 MAR 1851. Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland. [2] 07 APR 1861. [5] 1891 Govan, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland. [6] 1901 Govan, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.
