Biography

SULPHUR - Final rites for Mrs. Beulah Duhon Dugas, 64, widow of former Calcasieu parish police juror Dave Dugas, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic church.

Rev. Raymond Rochieau, pastor of St. Theresa Catholic church of Carlyss, will officiate. Burial will be in the Sulphur Mausoleum at Roselawn cemetery.

The body is at the Hixson funeral home where rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. today by the Catholic Daughters of America. Another rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m.

Mrs. Dugas died at her home in Carlyss at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday after a three-month illness.

Born in Hackberry on September 18, 1895, she was the daughter of Ludger and Hulda Vincent Duhon, Hackberry pioneers. She had lived in the Carlyss community all of her married life, some 46 years.

Her husband preceded her in death a year ago.

Mrs. Dugas was the owner of the Dugas-Currie grocery, and former owner of Roselawn cemetery and the McMillen-Dugas funeral home (now Hixson's).

She was a member of St Theresa Catholic church in Carlyss, and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Altar society.

Mrs. Dugas was named Sulphur's Woman of the Year in 1956 for her outstanding contributions to the community.

She is survived by a son, Alton Dugas; two daughters, Mrs. Bernice Currie and Mrs. Lettie Rue Burkholder, all of Sulphur; and five grandchildren, Larry and David Currie, Sherry and Kathy Dugas, and Mrs. Wallace Kinney, all of Sulphur.

Pallbearers are to be Melvin Dugas, Warren Dugas, Gene Portie, James Ellender, James Carrol, Don Harris, Homer Lieck and L.O. Pittman
