Sterling Duke was born in 1888 in Utah Territory, USA. He was the son of Robert Duke and Anna Peterson. The family were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), also known as the Mormons.

HEBER CITY – Funeral services for Sterling S. Duke, 83, who died at his home in Heber City on Monday, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Heber City Sixth LDS Ward Chapel.

Friends may call at the Olpin Mortuary in Heber City tonight from 7 to 9 o'clock and Thursday prior to services. Burial will be in the Heber City Cemetery.

Mr. Duke was born July 1, 1888, in Heber City, to Robert and Anna J. Peterson Duke. He married Rhea Richens on March 19, 1913, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died March 22,1919. He then married Velma Ivie on Nov. 30, 1927, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Mr. Duke served an LDS mission in the Southern States from 1909 to 1911. He was employed by Heber Mercantile Co. for 20 years and also worked for Heber City Corp. He played in the Heber Valley Marshal Band.

Survivors include his widow; two sons and three daughters, Ferris R. Duke, Pasadena, Calif.; Jerry Kent Duke and Mrs. Kenneth (Shirley) Lee, both of Heber City; Mrs. William (Clara) Turner, Clearfield; Mrs. Dee (Renee) Brown, Farmington; 14 grandchildren; one brother, Boyd Duke, Salt Lake City; two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Jorgensen, Heber City; Mrs. E. J. (Dessie) Allen, San Jose, Calif.

Sterling was born in 1888. He passed away in 1970.
