Bedford Brown Duke was born about 1813. Though he has been identified as the son of Edmund Duke and Mary Bonner, a source for this information is not given. Moreover, when Josiah H. Duke (1790-1846) died in 1846, Lafayette County, Mississippi, a "B. B. Duke" is identified as one of his heirs at law. In 1850, Rebecca Duke who is understood to be Josiah's widow is in Yalobusha County, like Bedford. [1]
Bedford married Mary Matthews (or Mathes) in 1833. [2] In 1850 Bedford and wife Mary are enumerated on the federal census in Yalobusha County, Mississippi. [3] In 1860, Bedford and wife Mary are in Calhoun County, Mississippi. [4] According to his wife's application for a Confederate pension, Bedford died in 1880. [5]
