Jan was an excellent storyteller, so good that she should have written a book. She was an artist, a mother of two daughters, and a grandmother, who married her best friend, Bud. Even though she had nearly every ailment known to humankind, from polio to thyroid cancer, Jan was essentially optimistic. She was not afraid to stand up against injustice, and she was a positive force for good in the world. Jan loved genealogy. I wish I'd kept a copy of the genealogy she had me type for her, which showed she was a descendant of John and Agnes Balch (see Balch House for more information). (Memories of J Crook)
