Biography
80. Maureen Joyce Duke 1928-2018. Maureen was born on 26 July 1928 in Fernhurst, Sussex. She married Alfred Witherwick in July 1984.
Maureen was a bookbinder with her own bindery. She was proud to show the first book which she had bound under the guidance of her maternal grandmother, Frances Eastwood, who lived in Fernhurst at that time.
She worked under her maiden name and was awarded the British Empire Medal in 2016 for a life-time service to the craft of bookbinding, conservation and restoration of books. She was Chair, President and Patron of the Society of Bookbinders.
She died on 27 October 2018.
