Biography
Lois was born 16 Mar 1903[1] in Henry County, Alabama, USA, the daughter of Joshua Thomas and Ada Idelia (May) Dukes. The census takers had a rough time with her first name rendering it variously as "Lowrie" and "Louis" while she resided in Halesburg, Henry, Alabama.[2][3] She married Willie Burton Kirkland 5 Oct 1921.[4] Together they raised four daughters; Myrtle Louise Kirkland, Annie Ruth Kirkland, Ada Pauline Kirkland, and Willie Gertrude Kirkland.[5][6] She passed away on 2 Dec 1979.[7][8] Lois was buried in Parkhill Cemetery; Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia.[9]
