Alexandre Dumas fils was born in 1824 in Paris, France. He was the son of Alexandre Dumas père, the author of The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo among other works, and Marie-Laure-Catherine Labay. He followed his father as a writer, his best known novel being La Dame aux camélias (The Lady of the Camellias) which was adapted into Giuseppe Verdi's opera La traviata.
He married secondly Henriette Marie Cécile Regnier de la Brière.
Alexandre passed away at the age of 71 years on November 27, 1895 at his home 1, rue de Champflour in Marly-le-Roi, Seine-et-Oise, France
