Hi Rob,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Hi Rob, I would love to get in touch with you and I see that you have been active as recently as April 2021. I have tried messaging you but I wonder if the messages have ended up in your spam filter. Hopefully this message on your profile won't end up in the spam filter.

In December I had proposed a merger between Dunbar-4826 into Dunbar-2436. Family lore from both of his families seems to confirm the relationship (e.g. he took his Canadian family with his three boys and wife Kate McMillan to England in 1886 and sent them home and never returned to Canada himself). A DNA-confirmed relationship exists between two second cousins (i.e. great-grand children) from Alexander Dunbar's first family with Kate McMillan. It may be possible to mark such a relationship also as DNA-confirmed for the Dunbar-2436 focussed family provided someone on that branch has participated in a DNA test.

Even if autosomal DNA fails to confirm a relationship (which is not beyond the realm of possibility when you've got that many 50% reductions in DNA), a Y-DNA test ought to be quite helpful.

Sincerely, Eric Dunbar.

P.S. To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.

Welcome back to WikiTree, Rob, and thanks for signing the Honor Code! I hope you discover as much about your family as I have about mine over the last several years.

Check out the How-to pages for some quick tips on working with both the Wiki pages and our other members. There is some great information in those pages.

If you have questions about how WikiTree works, I'm here to help. Let me know by replying to this message or sending me a private message.

Hi Rob,

You are now a confirmed member of WikiTree. Thank you for volunteering, and I wish you luck in connecting to your Dunbars on our tree!

Have fun and ask for help if you need it. WikiTree members are always eager to offer guidance to a fellow genealogist.

If you need additional help, our Mentors Project is a friendly bunch of volunteers who will be glad to assist you with WikiTree-specific problems.

Question of the week: Where do you look to bring out the details of your ancestor's life?

See you in the branches –

Margaret

Welcome to WikiTree, Robert! Your initial email from us contains helpful links to get you started. Totally FREE, Wikitree is unlike any genealogy site you’ve ever used! It's different as our goal is to have one profile per person; that means we all work together in a BIG collaborative team! Once you confirm your email address, you’ll have an opportunity to volunteer, fill in your tags and tell us about your genealogical interests.

Do you have research you’d like to share? Are you interested in how your family fits into the big tree? Most important - have fun growing your family tree and connecting to persons with the same interest. Once you volunteer and one of our Greeters confirms you, you’ll be on your way! Welcome to the family! We’re really glad you’re here. Lee :)
