Jane Dunbar was born on 23 August 1828 in Barony Parish, Glasgow, Lanarkshire^[1], daughter of Stewart Dunbar (1803–1871) and Agnes French (1805–1870).

Jane married Hugh McLetchie on 8 February 1852 in Glasgow. Their known children were:
