John Duncan ("The Elder") is supposed to have been the immigrant ancestor of this line of Duncans. He received a grant of 250 acres of land in Billerica Mass. May 10 1670; reportedly from Ireland.

John and Johanna (Joanna) (Joanna (Jefts) were married in Billerica MA Feb 23 1674 [1] Joanna Jefts, b. May 14, 1656, dau. of Henry Jefts and Hannah (Boths?) (immigrant).

John probably died about 1690 (Middlesex Estate index shows: Dunkin, John, Billerica, 1691, Administration, 6504, [2] Joanna may have remarried. Benjamin Dutton to Joanna Dunkin, (wid) July 1, 1690, Billerica, Middlesex Co. (Vol.3, pg.9). [3]

There are some conflicting stories regarding his death -- he died of smallpox -- Joanna remarried -- she and two of her children were killed by indians in 1691. Johanna's daughter may have been the Johanna who married 2nd to Benjamin Dutton.
