Biography

William was born in 1849 in Scotland.

In the 1871 Scotland Census, William is 21 years old living on Terminas St in Blairgowrie, Scotland with his wife Jane. William is a joiner (carpenter/cabinet maker). Ten years later in the census of 1881 the household consists of wife Jane Ann (31), daughter Whilelminia (9), daughter Helen (5), son Charles (4), son William (2), daughter Isabella (1 Mo)

1888 William immigrated to the US, he is 39.

1889 Oldest daughter Whilelminia immigrated to the US, she is 19.

1890 Jane Ann, (41) wife of William immigrated to the US along with daughter Nellie (15), son Charles (13), daughter Isabella (9), son Philip (4), daughter Jessie (2). William and Jane Ann would eventually have 10 children. Although no records have been found, both Jane Ann Templeman born 1873 and William born 1879 are assumed to have died as children.

1900 William and his family have been living in NH, USA for 10+ years and own the home at 97 Hanover St in Claremont. He has been married 29 years, the US Census recorded the Duncan household consisting of head William 51, wife Jane 51, daughter Whilelminia 29, daughter Helen 25, son Charles 24, daughter Isabella 19, son Philip 15, daughter Jessie 13, and son Albert 8. Albert is the only member of the household not born in Scotland.

1906 Son Philip age 22 moved to Toronto, Canada

1908 At the age of 59, William and Jane each became naturalized citizens of the United States.

1910 US Census, William is 61 living with his wife of 39 years Jane and son Albert (18). William is employed as a machinist in a machine shop.

1920 US Census, William is 70 living with his wife Janeanne of 49 years at 97 Hanover St, Claremont NH and would remain there until his death in 1927.

1927 William died Christmas Eve at the age of 78.
