Please feel free to offer advice, guidance, correction etc. The lack of Scottish historical records, together with the issues with a common family name, present difficulties in forming the family tree.

Hi Wayne!

Thank you for adding a GEDCOM. The GEDCOM does not automatically populate your tree. It generates a GEDCOMpare report which you work through, either accepting or rejecting all suggested matches. Once that has been done, you should see [add] buttons for each of the remaining names.

The GEDCOMpare process guide has tips on how to use the data in your file most efficiently.

For those using Chrome or Opera browsers, there is a tool that can help with the formatting of profiles which have been created through GEDCOM, so that you can concentrate on the research. You can read more about it in the WikiTree AGC FAQ.

Hello Cheryl. Thanks for your follow up.

I'm new to WkiTree, and still on initial explorations. I have a large tree in Ancestry.com, which I'm just trying to upload to WikiTree for a comparison report. Keen to see what eventuates! (It appears that I can't load a tree to WikiTree, only add profiles one by one?) I'm waiting on DNA results which might help a bit, but (if my assumptions/guesses re lineage at all steps) I've run into dead ends in both Scotland and England. I'm also about to review the Tartan Trails info for the Scottish Project to see where that might go. Cheers Wayne Duncan
