Biography

John was born on 22 May 1821, baptized on 3 Jun 1821 in the parish of Logie Pert, in Forfarshire, Scotland (called Angus after 1928). The church record named his parents as James Duncan and Ann Donald.

He migrated to Canada and married Elizabeth Strachan before 1847, exact details not found. They had children: Isabella (b. 1847), Charles (b. 1855), Elizabeth (b. 1858), Margaret (b. 1860), Charlotte (b. 1861), another Elizabeth (b. 1866), Robert (b. 1868).

The couple were shown with their children in the 1871, 1881 & 1891 Canada censuses at Derby, Grey County, Ontario.

John died in 1907 at Owen Sound, Ontario. He was buried along with his wife, who appears to have died 9 days later.

Buried in Geenwood Cemetery, Owen Sound.
