Note: I've seen his name spelled Marvel and Marvil.

Birth

Marvel was born on 17 Aug 1847. He passed away on 1 Jul 1918 and was buried in the Bower Cemetery, Oak Bower, Arkansas.[1]

Note: According to the 1850 Census, Marvel was 1 year old when this Census was taken, making his birth year 1849.

Death

M. G. Duncan Find A Grave: Memorial #5355769 According to FAG and FamilySearch, Marvel died on July 1, 1918 at the age of 70 (marked on his tombstone) and is buried in the Oak Bower Cemetery in Oak Bower, Hot Spring, Arkansas. His spouse is also listed here along with two of his children

Nancy J. Shockley (Shirley) and Marvel G. Duncan were married on June 19, 1870 in Clark County, Arkansas. Nancy was 21 and Marvel was 22.[2]

Census

1850 Census Mathew Duncan (Marvel's father) age 32 b. TN living with his spouse, Polly S. age 20 b. TN along with two of their sons: Marvel G. age 1 b. Missouri and John L., less than one-year-old and born in Missouri. They lived in Ozark, Ozark, Missouri.[3]
1870 Census. Marville (Marvel) was living at home with his spouse, Nancy, in Alpine Township, Clark, Arkansas. He was 20 and Nancy was 23. This record also shows that he was born in Missouri and she was born in Tennessee. There were no children in the house.[4]
1880 Census. Marvin (Marvel) was living with his spouse, Nancy J., in Dallas, Calhoun, Arkansas. He was 34, a farmer, and born in Missouri. Nancy J. was also 34 and born in Arkansas. This census definitely shows William M. as a son (adding him back in). The children in the home were:
  1. William M. age 9 b. in AR;
  2. Sabra A. age 7 b. in AR;
  3. Luella Duncan, age 5 b. in AR;
  4. Martha age 3 b. in AR; and
  5. Wiley Duncan, less than one year old also b. in Arkansas.[5]
1900 Census. Marvel G. Dunkin b. in Alabama was living with his spouse, Nancy J. b. in TN in Bismarck, Henderson & Valley Townships, Hot Spring, Arkansas. He was 53 and she was also 53. Nancy's father age 80 and mother age 78 both b. in TN were both living with them, Eli and Mary. There were two daughters and a son also there:
  1. Mary M. age 18 b. in AR;
  2. Nettie L. age 16 b. in AR; and
  3. Charles E. b. in AR [6]
1910 Census. Marvel G. was living with his spouse, Nancy J. He was 62 b. in MO and she was 63 b. in TN. There was one son, William, along with his spouse, Bertha, and two of their grandchildren, Pollie and Susie Duncan living with them. Pollie was 11 and Susie was 6, both b. in AR.[7]
